DONATE TO US AT MAURY COUNTY HISTORY MUSEUM

What We Are About!

The Maury County History Museum will bring to life and preserve the rich history of Maury County for residents of and visitors to the county.

The complex envisioned will contain historical and cultural artifacts, interactive activities and a STEAAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Agriculture, and Math) educational facility that depicts traditional local rural life in the home, at work, and within the community.

The Museum Complex will be designed, funded, built and operated by high school students, thus creating the ultimate work-based learning opportunity for students of Maury County Public Schools.

With the Scott County TN High School Museum as our model, we will build the second museum and educational facility in the United States that is designed, funded, built and operated by high school students (TN Crossroads https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0QHy7BxXPU).  Scott County is currently the only museum in the country with full student involvement in the creation and management of the facility (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbrY0M_0NUo).  Scott County’s museum has been in operation for over 15 years in a county with one of the highest unemployment rates and lowest average family incomes in the state.

Students will be trained in all aspects of the construction industry by TCAT Pulaski and Maury County School Construction Classes.  These classes, already in place at Columbia Central and Mt. Pleasant High School, annually build a house to be sold and moved.  Our structures will be larger and stationary.

The museum will be a “Blue Star” facility, offering free admission to military and emergency personal.

Sustainability will be achieved utilizing funds generated by visitors to the facility and by developing a retail “Boardwalk” that sells products created by students.  We currently produce and sell local honey.   Our plans include selling eggs, wood turned products, and blacksmithing items.  In addition to this, we intend to open a culinary eatery and an old-fashion school house that can be rented for conferences, weddings or birthday parties.  Preliminary discussions have taken place with a local farmer to establish a line of dairy products we can market.
